Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is at the heart of our vision for the future. In the past few years we’ve made huge advances in this area. Here are just some of our most recent achievements.

Recyclable carpet: we have developed a 100% recyclable carpet which matches the quality of our traditional cord material and is easier to lay. We’ve also introduced a recyclable velour carpet – the first of its kind for the UK market. As a result, virtually all of the one million sq metres of carpet we lay each year is now totally recyclable.

Clean engines: we have modified all of our Heavy Goods Vehicles to use Euro 5 engines – a cleaner, more efficient engine – thus reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. We believe we are the first mainstream contractor to take this step.

Recycling waste: we have been making in-roads into our office and factory waste. Paper, plastic and aluminium are all now collected in separate bins and taken away for recycling. And we’re working with our environmental consultant to explore other ways of disposing of factory waste.

Biodegradable graphics: we are experimenting with using 100% biodegradable products in our graphics such as Bioflex – a 100% biodegradable alternative to traditional PVC.

New innovations:

Smartwire: designed to fit seamlessly into our existing stock of Sodem and Octanorm, Smartwire uses a unique plug and play system which means all cabling can be reused – eliminating any wastage. Smartwire also uses low energy 35w lamps that reduce energy consumption, without compromising light quality.

Edge: every aspect of the Edge modular stand system is entirely reusable – from the beams to the panels. This system has been manufactured exclusively for Melville Teamwork by Sodem and allows us to easily expand an existing space creatively, effectively and efficiently.

E-Badge: through e-Badge, we’re allowing visitors to register for events online and receive their badge via email. This reduces the overall number of badges created – cutting the environmental impact as well as saving costs.

These are just some of the many environmental initiatives we have recently launched. In the coming years we have ambitious plans covering everything from reducing our carbon footprint to managing our facility waste streams. We are always looking for ways to improve our processes and take the environmental lead in the events industry.
